I was first in line to see the horrible american Godzilla movies. 1985 and 1998.
I just caught 98 version on T.V. the other day and was reminded of how sad it truly was. King Kong only made me wish I was watching the big guy destroy Tokyo yet again. Why isn't this movie being done yet again? With all the horrible remakes out there Godzilla could destroy all the competition with a big x-mas flick(seems like x-mas is the new summer). The 98 film still holds records for box office in a weekend. With justice done to the "big G" it could truly rake it in. The public seems desperate for a blockbuster such as that. I mean if The Day After Tomorrow can rule why can't there be a Godzilla flick. Wouldn't it be awesome to see an all out monster showdown. MechaGodzilla, Jet Jaguar, Gigan, Gidorah etc... All duking it out over Tokyo. Yes, Tokyo.
War of the Worlds was close but no cigar. Superman this year. But, that just looks like Brokeback Superman. And, is it another origin movie. Do we not know who Supes is by now? But where are the ID4's, Starship Troopers, Terminators, MIB's, Jurassic Park's? Did they all die with Wild, Wild, West? I hope not. I used to look forward to summer. There's always next year. Transformers anyone? Please bring back Gojira. TOHO have a heart and sell the rights one more time. 3rd times a charm.:o

Godzilla was a very enjoyable movie to watch. I'm talking about the last one released. I love my summer blockbusters, as much as I hate to admit it. It seems Superman and XMen are the only movies to watch out for this year, but it looks like next year is nothing but horror flicks and comic-book adaptations. I just hope they don't screw it up, but it looks like they will, judging by Ghost Rider. Man that looks terrible, and I like the Ghost Rider comics.

Ghost Rider might be cool. Although getting moved from summer is either a good or bad sign. August is a competetive(sp) month this year. SOAP looks like the 100 lb. gorilla. maybe they got scared and figured Feb. is a good month for a high profile movie in a low profile month. It should clean up. Daredevil and Elektra were both horrible IMO though. Here's to a good start to 2007. :o

I think Ghost Rider will be allright, but a move from the summer to February is a bad sign. A comic book movie should not be scared of a movie like SOAP, but this one is.

I'd be scared to find SOAP. I'd bet you would too.:D

They need to do something different than what they have been doing. I mean all the makes are ok, but come on lets get some good remakes in there. Not ones like the Dukes of Hazard...this is a joke.

Movie goers thrive on things that are different. and even the series movies are getting boring.

I would probably go watch a Godzilla vs. Rodan movie. Especially if they can make them look like the latest Godzilla.

When you say "latest Godzilla", do you mean 2005's "Godzilla: Final Wars"? If you were talking about the 1998 movie w/ Matthew Broderick, there are six Godzilla movies more recent than that one.

I've been a big fan of Godzilla all my life. The '98 movie is known by the acronym GINO, for Godzilla In Name Only. It's an interesting creature in its own right, but it is not Godzilla.

I had no problem with the '98 design, but was disappointed in the abilities, or lack of same. The real Godzilla has an atomic ray breath weapon, and is virtually invulnerable to conventional weapons. The missiles that killed GINO would just piss him off. I'd love to see a big-budget reboot with modern FX which portrays the big G correctly.

BTW, anyone who'd like to see a good Godzilla flick should check out "Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack" (2001), usually referred to as GMK. In this movie, Toho abandonded the G2K design for something much creepier looking, and the meanest attitude possessed by Big G in any of his incarnations. This Godzilla doesn't tunnel and hide beneath the city; this Godzilla LEVELS the city. This G's attitude combined with G98's budget would be a winning combination. If the Legendary Pictures project comes to pass, I hope they keep him more true to his basic nature than Tri-Star did.

I always thought Godzilla's musical tastes ran to Blue Oyster Cult.Never thought the big green guy would be into John Phillip Sousa.Possibly in 2011 for the Sony owned titles in the U.S.Then again, it's rumor.Supposedly, on the Toho Kingdom forums,a member contacted Mike Schlesinger who produced the Godzilla DVD releases for Sony here in the U.S.The member asked if the Heisei films that they owned the rights too would be re-released with the original Japanese audio with English subs and in Widescreen.
