I saw a sneak preview of this movie last night. The movie was good(no spoilers here) and you will probably hear alot of Oscar talk. Deservedly so. But there was/is one thing people will be talking about most. DiCraprio. They'll say he deserves an Oscar. But I am here to say no way. I like DiCraprio don't get me wrong(Aviator was an excellent film). It was just his accent in this movie drove me nuts. I almost walked out because I COULDN'T TAKE IT. He was consistently terrible at it though. It was unknown what he was trying to go for but it wasn't the nationality they said he was(South African I think, I was kinda drunk. It was a special preview party and lots of drinks were poured and... anyway). So please remember me when watching this one. The is no way you'll forget DiCraprio(yeah I know how to spell it) and his accent. It ranks up there with Costner's Robin Hood and Cameron Diaz trying to do British.

I have not seen the movie, but that was the one thing that bothered me about the trailer. I just did my best to ignore it, but apparently there is no way to do so. I saw some special on the movie, where Dicaprio talks about the intense acting by all the actors, and it is a shame that a crappy accent will ruin the movie. I'll still check it out on DVD.

Yeah, he's a pretty boy, and he can seem annoying sometimes, but I've been impressed with him most of the time. Who cares about "Blood Diamond." He was excellent in "The Departed." I hope Scorsese finally gets that Oscar. Anyway, what's the point of having accents in movies at all. So frequently movies are being made about so many different nationalities and yet everyone always speaks English in American productions (obviously). If we can suspend disbelief and handle a bunch of Russian's speaking English, couldn't we also handle a bunch of Russian's speaking English without an accent. I don't want to eliminate accents. I just think they should only be done if the actors are really good at it. Otherwise, forget it.

That's a good point. If they are already speaking English, then why does accent matter anymore? I've never thought about it like that before.
