What does it take for you to see a movie in theaters? For me it has to be something big. Like, Superman or X-MEN. Or, an arthouse flick, like Amelie or the upcoming ...For Your Consideration. Rarely, do I want to see anything else. To me, a comedy would play better at home. Same with a drama. I just cannot sit in a theater and watch a 2 hour snoozer like anything Denzel Washington has done lately or something like "Domino". It just really hard for me to jusify $25 to see something first run when I can goto my local video store and rent 4 or 5 movies for $10-$15. Esspecially when I can pause, eat a steak, drink some beer, and so on. It always amazes me when a movie like "Gridiron Gang" comes in #1. It it just a bunch of tweenagers gettin dropped off by mom and dad? Is this why nothing is rated "R" anymore? I notice that, when we on this site take polls on if we will "see this in theaters" the number is always high. But, when the movie comes out nobody has seen it. "Fearless" is a good example of this. Are we being honest with ourselves? Will you really see it in theaters? I probaly won't. Just a thought.

Here are the last movies that I saw in theaters; Munich, King Kong, M:I 3, X-Men 3, Superman Returns, Jackass 2.

I really was aiming to see the big movies, and Jackass because I couldn't wait for it to come out on DVD.

I see a pattern with movie goers, that they only go to certain movies, and skip everything else. Good examples are Black Dahlia, All the King's Men, Hollywoodland, and even Snakes on a Plane. These movies were completely ignored, while Gridiron Gang and Invincible are getting all the ticket sales.

My prediction for the rest of the year, is that no film outside the huge blockbusters will make any money. I'm not even too sure about The Prestige or Borat.

As far as the voting on this site, I have noticed that as well. People claim that they will see something and obviously don't. I tend to vote honestly, and if I'm not sure, I choose the Not Sure option. I guess people are convinced that they will see a film, and by the time it rolls around, they have lost all interest.

I'm currently working on a film, it is an underdog story about a handicapped kid who lives in a racist town, making him an outsider (and he's gay), and then he learns a very important lesson, and everyone lived happily ever after. I see big ticket sales and an Oscar for this one. It will star The Rock.

That article about SOAP is right on with what I said about people saying they'll "see it theaters". Sure, I want to see every movie in theaters, but I know reality says I can't afford it. Right now, there are at least 7 or 8 movies I want to see in a theater. But, guess what? I will most likely see one(that will probably be with gift certs. I receive in my stocking) . And, chances are it isn't one of those 7 or 8. But... on DvD I will see almost every new release(and some old ones) every Tuesday. With Blockbuster's new deal I may never leave home. Let alone goto the theater again. My couch is way more comfy. My T.V. large enough. My surround loud enough. With my PS3 the resolution clear enough. My kids movies are more durable now and there is just more choices for kids on DvD. That and I don't have to sit through Doogal ever again. Also, special editions of Jackass 2 and Borat will definitely be better at home with all the additions and uncut stuff.

Quick question. Do special features on DvD make you wait to rent the movie(knowing that you will see more of it)? or, Do you still see it in theaters? i.e. Tenacious D will definitely be a better DvD IMHO. But I am also totally p/o'd King Kong will have to be rented again a year later to see what I am missing.

Going out to a theater to me is reserved for when I want to go out with friends or with my boyfriend for a night out. I also love to take my son out to a theater to see newly released cartoons but even at seven years old he has a difficult time sometimes "sticking with" an entire flick.

It has to be something I really want to see, either with my kids or my sweetie, and then it makes for a fun night out. We usually go in the middle of the week when it's a little cheaper.

The last movie we saw in the theaters was Eragon, and then only because I'd read the book and my kids thought I wanted to see the movie when it came out. It opened in the theaters the same day as my birthday, so guess what I got for a present?

I hardly ever go to the theatre anymore. I only see a movie at one when it is a movie I have anticipated seeing for a long time and simply cannot wait for DVD. However I do prefer watching films in my own home vs. going out somewhere and fighting crowds.

For me, it has to be in digital. We have one digital theater here local, and it has to be something "Big" that I want to see. As well, I really am getting to the point where I hate crowded places, but if it is a good movie, I am willing to sit through it - but only if its digital. :)
