What movies past, present, and future would anyone suggest be seen on the big screen? I really want to open a revival theater in my home town and wonder if that's a bad idea or suggestions I haven't thought of. Sound and visuals count. Story not as crucial but still important. It seems like the going theme is Sci-Fi. But there has to be others.
Me, I must get the pre reqs outta the way.

Any Star Wars
Most Spielberg flicks(Jaws, Close Encounters, Ryan, A.I., J.Parks,etc...)
Starship Troopers
5th Element
Rocky Horror
Fantasia
Aladdin(that magic carpet ride's a trip)
Rosemary's Baby(the tension, the music, noobs only, not the same twice)
King Kong
LOTR
Spidey
Polar Express
Akira
Any Studio Ghibli flick
So that should get things started. What about horror? Any comedies?

Yeah, I think it is real important to revive Spider-Man, King Kong, and Polar Express. Long forgotten classics.

How about 2001, Lawrence of Arabia, Vertigo, Rear Window, Blue Velvet, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Leopard, Aguirre: The Wrath of God, The Conversation, The Godfather, Red, White, Blue Trilogy, Kill Bill, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, The original Superman, Fargo, The Third Man, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Singin in the Rain, The Deer Hunter, Bridge on the River Kwai, Sunset Blvd., 8 1/2, Fitzcarraldo, Blade Runner, and many many more.

But, if you actually want to make money, you should stick to Spielberg Flicks, Disney Flicks, Star Wars, LOTR, and Rocky Horror. Most of the above movies will not draw in crowds and most of the other blockbusters were only popular when they were bombarded into everyone's brain with heavy advertising.

I also just wanted to mention flicks that play better on the big screen rather than home. Not just revivals. Good list though.

How 'bout Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, Full Metal, 2001(2010 for that matter), Spartacus, Barry Lyndon, and the Shining.

To me, anything by Kubrick, Herzog, Kieslowski, Lynch, Malick, Antonioni, Felini is purely cinematic - it couldn't work in the same sense as a book or another artform. For me, those are the types of films I would want to watch on the big screen. Something that just washes me over.

Action films I can save for rentals. I did think King Kong played unbelievably well. The first Matrix was worth the price. Titanic would probably be incredible - the romance I can take it or leave it, but having seen it recently I thought that last hour on the ship was perfection - the claustrophobia of the hallways filling with water. Truly great stuff. I prefer Alien actually, but that's reflective of my preference for deliberate and brooding movies. Kill Bill had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

I'll have to think of more stuff. Deffinitely difficult to think of any comedies that would be that much better on the big screen.
