I checked out Flyboys at http://www.worstpreviews.com/review.php?id=447 and I think that...I agree with most of what was written in your review . I walked out of the theater afterward satisfied with the movie ,the charaters were all from central casting . They are rushed in the story at the beginning and you learn what you need to in the first hour about them.I agree about the focus on the guys who survived . I found myself wanting to know more about the kid who got killed in the field by the German after survivng the crash of his plane. He really wasn't introduced to the audience other than one passing reference after the main guys were in training. The main purpose of the film to show the bravery of the pilots in the simple planes that put them in the center of all kinds of chaos .You really come from "Flyboys" appreciating the sacrifice of the early war pilots . It's hard to discern who is who in close-up because the googles and hats make everyone look the same . Alas I knew that wasn't what this movie was made for. The romance was really not to big of the story to bother me. Romance worked to move the action not slow it down as in other war related films in recent years. This is a good film worth seeing it's not aiming to be anything than what it is a good 2 + hours of air fights of danger and some fun on the side with a little history .The destruction of the German Zepplin is a highlight for me . You may not care much for the charcters but you will like the flying and action . I rate it a 7 out of 10.

I saw the film on Friday, and was impressed how quickly they got to the action, but at the same time, was dissapointed with the rest of the story. My friends are trying to convince me that the movie was terrible, but for anyone that can enjoy themselves without pointing out the predictability and the plot holes in the film, then you will enjoy it. I also thought it was kind of funny how they made all the germans look like blood-thirsty animals. And what was up with building up characters that survived. I did not feel sorry for the kid that was gunned down, cause I didn't know anything about him. The ending was kind of cool, but very, and I mean very, predictable. I rate it a 7 out of 10, just because the awesome battles took up 90% off the film, and nobody can say anything bad about them.

So can it wait for DVD? Or do you guys think the action would lose something at home? Sounds like a rental to me.

I went to see King Kong in the theaters, the only reason being that it is the kind of movie that needs to be watched on a big screen. Flyboys is not like that. With so many high-flying battles, at no point did they give you the feeling of vertigo, while King Kong did. Flyboys is your standard predictable movie, that's worth watching on DVD and that's all.

I agree w/ DC about King Kong. That is what I was kinda hopin' for with Flyboys. I am gonna start a thread in 10 best lists to see what we all suggest be seen on the big screen.

I read that the dvd will be out on January 30th. It's really up to you but I think that you could enjoy the fight scenes at home especially if you have surround sound. I really loved the fact that Jeno Reno was in this patriotic action movie. I was surfing the web today and found a contest on myspace.com where people can win to fly in a real aerial dogfight. People have to send in patriotic photos or stories of true heroes, veterans, fightfighters, etc. that they know. It sounds really interesting.

The flight scene special effects were amazing n a little less to Pearl Harbour. The aerial sequences were good to watch...

While nothing ground-breaking, Flyboys is two-plus hours of passable entertainment. Weak on story, but strong on action, Flyboys is actually worth seeing for the effects alone.
