It's just a shame they couldn't commit to six films from the beginning.

Then ya could have had it this way (My ideal Spider-Man film series):

Spider-Man - Green Goblin
The first film was fine.

Spider-Man 2 - Dr. Octopus
Second was also fine.

Spider-Man 3 - Sandman
The film is just how it is but without the Harry as Goblin and Symbiote storyline. You could introduce Eddie Brock however. The plot would follow the revelation of Sandman as Uncle Ben's killer and Peter's pursuit of him.

Spider-Man 4 - The Lizard
Spider-Man investigates reports of a rampaging monster in the streets of New York. Then when he discovers it is in fact his friend Dr. Connors, he struggles with whether he could deal with killing his own friend as it seems it may be the only way to stop him.

Spider-Man 5 - Mysterio
There is much hype for the opening show of the master magician and illusionist The Great Mysterio! Peter takes Mary Jane to the Grand Opening. Something happens involving Spider-Man at the show which causes Mysterio to be disgraced and booed off-stage. He launches a campaign in order to get his career back on track claiming that he will unmask Spider-Man. But he also harbours a more devious plot.

Spider-Man 6 - Venom & The Green Goblin II
Finally Harry takes the mantle of Goblin and begins his attack on Peter. Peter doesn't want to fight him (This could all be much the same as it is in SM3) and tries to reason, to no avail. He receives the symbiote fairly early on and it's aggression causes him to send Harry into a coma in an ensuing battle. Peter, filled with grief at his actions, removes the costume which then bonds with Brock. Peter takes time off from Spider-Man to stay with MJ at Harry's side. But Venom (as Brock) begins a mental torture attack on Peter; reveaing himself as Venom, visiting Aunt May, befriending MJ and generally tormenting Peter. One night, Peter goes to the comatose Harry alone to finally apologise for what he has done and pledge that he is going to stop the Symbiote. As he gets there however, he walks in as Venom unplugs Harry's life support and escapes. A massive battle follows in which Peter destroys Venom. The end would mirror the end of the first film with Peter and MJ standing over Harry's grave while Peter has a closing monologue.

Bear in mind that the plotline involving Peter's love for MJ, his declining friendship with Harry, Harry and Eddie's growing hatred of Peter would be developed throughout the series.

Nuff said.

I think that if a fourth Spider-Man film is made, then the film company producing it (Sony Pictures, I think?) needs to take a long hard look at whether or not they want to continue on from Spider-Man 3 or have a reboot for the franchise, like Batman and the rumoured reboot of Superman (apparently Warner Bros is unhappy with Superman Returns and wants to start over).

I personally think that Spider-Man needs a new director to give it a new breath of life. Sam Raimi has had 3 chances at it now. He was spot on with Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, but Spider-Man 3 leaves a lot to be desired. I would like to see the film propped up by a really good story line, rather than trying to rip through as many of the rogues gallery in one movie as possible.

Rumours about the Sinister Six being in Spider-Man 4 would not work because many of the villains (Doc Ock - Dead, Sandman - Floating around somewhere) are either dead, or have not been established yet. The producers need to choose one villain and keep him alive at the end of the film. I cannot stress how annoying it is to watch a superhero movie where the main villain dies at the end of the film.

I would choose either the Lizard (as Dr. Connors is already and established character and as many people have pointed out, he is still in posession of a sample of the symbiote from Spider-Man 3) or Electro. I know Electro may not seem like a good choice at first, but I am not talking about the Electro from the comics with the gay green and yellow unitard and the Dame Edna Everage head coverage (for those of you who don't know who Dame Edna is, type her name into google images and you'll see what I mean). I am talking about taking the character of Maxwell Dillon (Electro) and making him into a believeable villain with a sensible costume.

I have thought about how the origin of Electro would work out, and it goes a little something like this.

- You start with a wide shot of a power pole on a road in the middle of nowhere. You watch as a cherry picker pulls up and a man gets out and puts on a safety vest and hard hat. The man gets into the cherry picker and ascends to the top of the power pole to work on the faulty line.

- The clouds start to blacken and all of a sudden it starts to rain. The man tries to lower the cherry picker, but the mechanism jams, and then comes the thunder and lightning. A single bolt of lightning strikes the power pole and sends 500,000 volts surging through the man's body.

- The camera then heads inside the man for a look at how the electricity is affecting is dna (like in the TV series House, when they are explaining what happens to the cells of the body when someone has a particular disease).

-The man is sent flying from the cherry picker and into a nearby grass patch. The camera zooms in to reveal the man lying motionless on the ground, still sizziling. The camera zooms in again, but this time on his name badge which reveals him to be Maxwell Dillon. His eyes open and he takes a breath...

What do you think?

That might actually work. Although one thing you need to think about is making that seem more realistic and darker. Let's make it more mysterious. More...dying to see something like that. I mean, let's look at the Dark Knight for example. Christopher Nolan has set a whole new example. A whole new complextion of story and characters. A New form of seriousness. That's what I want with a new spider-man movie as well as the guy above me. I think they should re-boot it. Sure, they did pretty good with the first two movies but come on, they can do better. It was dramatic, light, comedic, but what about the real world of Spider-man? How would that look? feel? play out?

I mean can I ask everyone a question? How did everyone feel when they first saw the trailer to the Dark Knight? It hyped up, it changed things. And it didn't disappoint. Maybe a Christopher Nolan/David S. Goyer version of Spider-Man would be interesting, but let's give somebody else a chance. Like the Joker said, "If you're good at something, never do it for free."

I reluctantly decided to post into this thread, as the OP seems not all there or even that smart, but whatever...

The fault of Spiderman 3 was simple: it was too shallow.

The casting, plot, etc- all fine, not that it couldn't have been better. But the beauty of Spiderman 2 was the plot was the most complex we saw that far in a superhero movie. They unified together. Parker in the mask and Parker out of the mask.

This one tried to symbolize this by flicking an off/on switch that would turn Tobey into a member of My Chemical Romance. Also, the camp humor with that didn't hit, and the costuming still vibes way too much of the 60's. And I'm tired of Kirsten Dunst and the studio sticking their asses out for her.

Her face literally looks like a cartoon heart. Ugh. Even Bryce Dallace Howard makes a better blonde than her (their hair colors are reversed in the films).

But enough of that. No, while I initially was satisfied by Spidey 3 by the complexity, it soon became obvious that on repeat viewings, those complexities turn into accountabilities. They rushed it. The plot might have worked somewhat, up to the last 30 minutes, if they had saved Venom for another movie.

Most of this is because Raimi decided to bite off more than he could chew with a character he never liked but was forced on him, and his passion for shitty camp humor.

I would be up for a reboot in another few years, but then again, I wouldn't mind if they recast Tobey and Kirsten and got a new actor and just kept Spidey in a perpetual youth. But if they're gonna keep him, he BETTER fucking grow balls. Sorry to put it blank, but if you're almost out of college, and still cry at the slightest emotion, you don't fit the role anymore.

Spiderman essentially is about a boy perpetually coming into age. "Great power...great responsibility". But the original comics have shown he can be so much more than that if they gave him something to work with.

Unfortunately, I don't think Raimi sees it that way. And while the 60's vibe worked before they started introducing anachronistic characters and plot devices in the third one, it definitely has no place now - and Raimi is probably too wedded to this idea to continue at the helm.

Right on target exactly. Bulls-eye even.
